June 28th, 2017 Press Release!

Chester Merchants Press Release

Greetings!

It's Canada Day, Week, Month, YEAR !

The national colours of Canada were declared by King George V in 1921 to be red and white. Red is symbolic of England and white, France. The maple leaf is one of the national symbols and red is the autumn colour of the leaves. So there.

Why not put something red and white on, or outside your house this week.

A Canadian flag, a case of Olands, a caesar with horseradish, a red convertible with whitewall tires, a friend who has returned from the beach or just paint your toes red and white.

Maybe light up your house with red and white lights - be creative.

Get your Bob and Doug McKenzie groove on and let's celebrate - eh?

Greetings!

Today is officially the first day of summer - reason alone to break out the blender.

Take the top off the convertible and hit the road. We have two days of predicted sunshine
before the next deluge so take advantage of it.

There are just nine days to go before the big
One. Five. Ohhhhh.

Thursday night is wing nut night at the Fo'c'sle Pub. Get yours "hot on" or with the blue cheese sauce on the side - my favourite. Refer to the Canada food guide for your wing choices.

Saturday night Port Cities will be on stage at the Chester Playhouse @ 7:30 pm.
Port Cities is a collaboration of  six years work; the trio of Breagh Mackinnon, Carleton Stone and Dylan Guthro first crossed paths in 2011 in Nashville. Keeping true to their Nova Scotia roots, the album became the perfect balance of Nashville and Nova Scotia.

Although Port Cities' self titled album was the group's first collaborative work, the members have their own personal roots in the Maritime music scene.

Donald Trump went on a fact-finding visit to Israel. While on a tour of Jerusalem he suffered a heart attack and died.
The undertaker told the American diplomats accompanying him "You can have him shipped home for $50,000, or you can bury him here for $100."
The diplomats went into a corner and discussed this. They came back to the undertaker and told him they wanted the president shipped home.

The undertaker was puzzled and asked, 'Why would you spend $50,000 to ship him home, when he could be buried here for only $100?  The diplomats replied "A long time ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead.  We just can't take that chance."

Saturday night the Chester Playhouse is proud to present Ben Caplan.
ECMA Songwriter of the Year, Ben Caplan, is literally on your doorstep here in Chester at 7:30pm.
He will be delivering an unforgettable show. With his huge beard and unruly mane, he is as visually striking as he is aurally compelling. His rough and textured tones cut through crowded halls roaring louder than the raucous crowds.

"The Blue Lane" will be playing in the Red Shed at 35 Union Street at 8 pm this Saturday. Cover charge is $15. Bring a refreshment and come hear these talented musicians in a warm, intimate setting.
The Blue Lane is a genre-defying Halifax-based trio that merges the sounds of jazz, blues, rockabilly, fusion and traditional pop music. The electrostatic weaving of sultry vocals, intricate harmonies, lightning guitar and ever so thick beats, define this group.

The Rope Loft is ready for you this Father's day weekend. They have ice chilled Blue Lobster Vodka - try the fresh eel lake oysters with an ice chilled Blue Lobster Martini chaser. They also carry "Willing to Learn Gin" and "Fisherman's Helper Rum" by the Nova Scotia Spirit Company.
Why wait till the weekend? Go now !

Sunday evening the Chester Playhouse will be hosting Jamie Junger's "Plug Into Music"
CD release at 7 pm.
Jamie and his students have been collaborating to produce an original CD, and will be performing it together on stage at the Chester Playhouse alongside Caleb Miles and Afraaz Mulji.
Jamie brings his students a wealth of knowledge gained from years of experience in the industry.  Tickets are available through the Chester Playhouse or by calling 902-275-3933. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for youth with general admission seating.
